PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO SEND A LETTER IN DEFENSE OF FALAH ALWAN, PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERATION OF WORKERS COUNCILS AND UNIONS IN IRAQSEND YOUR PROTEST LETTER TODAY! The administration of the Cotton Industries recently issued an order to transfer Falah Alwan, President of the Federation of Workers Councils and Unions in Iraq (FWCUI) from the company that employs him. The decision came as a result of the strike of the workers of the Cotton Industries Company which started on December 13, 2009.

This retaliation is a declaration that the freedom of assembly and collective action by workers is not allowed in Iraq. This perpetuates the oppressive practices of the Hussein regime, and deprives the public sector and enterprise workers of the right to organize, bargain and strike - rights that are recognized in the core conventions of the International Labor Organization, to which Iraq is a signatory. This action calls for a quick response from us in the U.S.  USLAW has created an electronic letter that can be delivered to the Iraqi Ambassadors to the U.S. and U.N, to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and to the International Labor Organization.  It takes just a moment to send the letter.PLEASE SIGN AND SEND THE LETTER TO DEMONSTRATE YOUR SOLIDARITY WITH THE LABOR MOVEMENT OF IRAQ. Once you have sent your letter, please forward this message to others and ask them to do the same thing.  A violation of workers rights anywhere is a violation of workers rights everywhere.  Your letter lets these officials know that what happens to workers and unions in Iraq matters to working people and the labor movement in the U.S.
